Odyssey - Funding

Funding, Regulation and Quality Management

Odyssey is financed by a combination of different types of funding depending on the service being delivered. Sources include:

  • DWP benefits
  • Housing benefits
  • Supporting People Grant (in some cases)
  • Social Services “Top up”
  • One-off donations and grants
The Care and Support services are commissioned by Local Authority Social Services Departments and Supporting People Teams and delivered in line with written contracts. As a rule what can be classed as “state funding” covers the core responsibilities of the services concerned.

Often Odyssey has to seek other sources of funding in the form of grants or donations for activities that could be deemed to be more peripheral or “luxury” in nature.

Quite correctly, services delivered by Odyssey are routinely and rigorously regulated and inspected to ensure both quality for those we support and value for money for purchasers. Key elements of these requirements are laid out in the Care Standards Act (2000), Valuing People (2000) and Supporting People (2000). In addition, as managing agents for the majority of our Housing Association partners, we are also subject to a number of requirements of the Housing Corporation and various pieces of Housing Legislation.

Registered residential services are inspected yearly (unannounced) by inspectors from CSCI against national standards. Reports are made public.

Supported Living Services are inspected at least every 3 years, under a different regime, by the Local Supporting People administering Authority against national standards.

In addition to a formal inspection process, Odyssey:
  • Participates in regular and contact reviews with purchasers.
  • Participates in regular management agreements reviews and housing management audits with Housing Association partners.
  • Submits regular monitoring information to purchases and Housing Association partners.
  • Facilitates an internal quality monitoring system with the involvement of advocates.
Finally, Odyssey has a strong commitment to fostering a culture of high quality services and continuous improvement. We do this by working to a mixture of external accreditation processes as well as by implementing a comprehensive internal quality management system.

We hold the Investors in People Award, the Health and Safety accreditation (CHAS), and have achieved ISO 9001 Quality Management Award accreditation.
